As a journalist I am often invited by editors to tackle complicated subjects with little or no idea of what these editors are talking about or precisely what the topic entails. At first, previously in my profession, these kinds of undertakings made me really want to zip myself into a sleeping bag and bury myself in some sand pit. I really could not go to the assigners to get more detailed clarification – they would think me amateurish and not in any way in control of my game. I can just overlook the assignment and wait for a bolt of other worldly insight to hit me.
