Although leprosy is eliminated in Europe, in 2014 eleven new cases recorded in Spain, of which ten of them corresponded to immigrants currently residing in the country.On the occasion of the celebration on Sunday the World Leprosy Day, the association Anesvad recalls in a statement that is forgotten disease associated with poverty and inequality.Despite being completely curable -in the past three decades they have managed to surpass 16 million people-remains a public health problem in many regions of the world.According to the State Register of Leprosy that manages the Institute of Health Carlos III, of the eleven new cases in Spain in 2014 (latest year for which data are available), four of them were in Catalonia.In Madrid and Castilla y León two cases were detected in both, while the Balearic Islands and Navarre recorded one case each.www.anesvad.org
