Dog House

Unfortunately, shelter dogs don’t often get a lot of time to run around, play and just be themselves while they’re waiting for someone to finally adopt them — and so one pet resort decided to throw some shelter dogs a pool party to help make all the waiting a little easier. The owners of Second Home Pet Resort have always loved rescue pets, and have worked with local rescue groups in Arizona for many years. And so when an employee of Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) contacted Second Home Pet Resort asking if it could host a party for some of their shelter dogs, the owners very quickly and excitedly agreed. “Whatever we can do to help pets get adopted, we are in,” Jordan Cowan, resort director at Second Home Pet Resort, told The Dodo. Eight dogs were put on the list for the pool party: Rogue, Grayson, Bean, Henry, Loki, Ozzie, Benito and Polo. Seven of the dogs came from the shelter’s West Valley branch in Phoenix, and one came from its East Valley branch in Mesa. Staff made sure all eight dogs had time to meet and hang out before the party, though, to ensure they’d be on their best behavior and get along at the actual event.
